Equatorial Guinea captain Emilio Nsue says he has confidence in a young team to deliver results and make an impression during the World Cup qualifiers as they prepare for the second leg of their first round tie against South Sudan.
Equatorial Guinea host the game in Malabo on Tuesday after a 1-1 draw in the first leg, which was played in Khartoum on Wednesday.
“We have a young team and we the old ones must transmit a spirit of competitiveness to these new players,” Nsue told reporters in Malabo after the team returned from the first leg. “We have to sweat the most in each game to set the example.”
Nsue, formerly with Middlesborough in England and now playing in Cyprus, said the potential of exciting times lay ahead for the small central African nation.
“We are convinced that we have a potential of young players who promise a lot. We know that there is a lot of work to be done, but I think that with everyone’s effort we will overcome the difficulties little by little.”
Equatorial Guineas are fancied to advance to the group stage of the World Cup qualifiers. They did not do so for the 2018 finals in Russia but were in the group competition in 2010 and 2014.
