Former Cameroon international Joel Matip has handed Liverpool FC a much-needed boost.
However, Guinean midfielder Naby Keita is set to miss the Reds’ highly-anticipated English Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provided an injury update ahead of the encounter which will be played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“James (Milner) and Naby are not available. Both are muscle injuries, different and for different people, so we see how quickly they will be,” Klopp told the club’s official website.
“We really don’t have to put a timeframe on it because we don’t know it exactly.
“We will see, we are open and whenever they want to join us again, they can – or when the medical department gives the green light,” he added when speaking on Friday.
Defender Matip has been out nursing a knee injury since October 2019 and his return has strengthened the Liverpool squad.
“For sure, not for this weekend, not for next week, but then we will see. Joel was not part of all parts of training [this week]. He was outside on the pitch, which looked really good,” the German coach explained.
“But then he had to do his own stuff again. Yesterday he was part of the first part of the training.”
