New Orlando Pirates coach Joe Zinnbauer may have been a left-field appointment, but the former Hamburg and St Gallen tactician is insistent that he can change the fortunes of the club.
Zinnbauer takes over from the beleaguered Rhulani Mokwena, who moves back to the assistant coach role after an unsuccessful spell at the helm following the departure in September of Micho Sredojevic to Zamalek.
German national Zinnbauer will take on his first role in Africa, and his first job since he left St Gallen in 2017.
“I like a dominant and passionate style of play and ball possession is important to me,” Zinnbauer said.
“There is a quality with our players and we have to reach the team’s full potential with discipline, hard work and dedication.
“I expect everyone at the club to give their best, as I will give mine. It will not be easy but we will do our best to make Pirates become great again.
“What I can promise to the Pirates fans, I will work hard with passion for this great club and now I’m very happy I wear the Orlando Pirates colours.”
Mokwena will keep the head coach reins until Zinnbauer is issues his work permit, which could only be in the New Year. Pirates are next in action on December 21 when they host Black Leopards.
