Maxime Biamou says it is one of Coventry City’s goals to do well in the Leasing.com Trophy and return to Wembley.

Round Two of the Leasing.com Trophy got underway last week and the action continues tonight. A place in Round Three awaits and one club that is no stranger to the competition and the big stage is Coventry City.

Mark Robins’ side won the competition in 2017, beating Oxford United 2-1 at Wembley Stadium and tonight they travel to MK Dons looking for a place in Round Three.

One player who will be looking to continue his red-hot form is Maxime Biamou who was voted the Leasing.com Player of the Round following the conclusion of the Group Stages.

Speaking about the competition and his form so far this season, Biamou says how important the game time has been to him given the injury he sustained last season.

“Last season I was injured but I’ve come back from my ACL injury and am working hard to be a better player and a better striker. The game against Southampton Under 21s in the Group Stage was only my third game back with the first team so it means a lot to me to win a trophy for my performances.”

Coventry tasted success in the competition back in 2017 as they overcame Oxford United at Wembley Stadium in front of 74,000 fans and another Wembley appearance is important to the club.

“We all want to play at Wembley,” Biamou added. “It’s the best stadium in the world, it would be great for us as a club and for us as players to get there. We just want to win every game and win trophies, so if we can do that at Wembley, we are happy.

“It’s one of the club’s goals to do well in this competition. Like the gaffer has said, he wants to go as far as possible and hopefully get to Wembley, which is why it’s important for us to win.”

Coventry are unbeaten in normal time in the competition so far and take on Russel Martin’s MK Dons side tonight for a place in the last 16.

“We expect a tough game tonight,” Biamou concluded. “I’ve played against them twice before, the first time in the FA Cup two years ago and recently in the League this season. But we are ready for this game and hopefully progress to the next round of the competition.”

The draw for Round Three of the Leasing.com Trophy will take place live on Sky Sports News on Thursday 5 December from 7.15pm.
